Living Greenness: The Music and Vision of Hildegard von Bingen

Program Description 

Greenness, according to the 12th-century mystic Saint Hildegard of Bingen, infuses the living stuff of the cosmos. Medievalist, philosopher, and artist Allison Mondel builds a bridge from Hildegard’s concept of this greening power, or viriditas, to our modern lives, exploring how it might help us cultivate the Creative Self. This intimate program weaves together medieval song, spoken texts from Hildegard’s visions, and guided contemplation, inviting us to encounter viriditas as a living creative force within ourselves. 

Artist Bio 

Allison Mondel has a mosaic career as an arts leader, teaching artist, transformational voice coach, mentor, speaker, and scholar. 

She has been lauded by The Washington Post for her “ethereal soprano” and “spare, otherworldly radiance… a performance from across the centuries, full of distant and irresistible beauties.” 

She received her M.M. in Early Music Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music where she studied with Laurie Monahan (Tapestry, Ensemble P.A.N., Sequentia). Following…
